10 Reasons To Start A Blog (Even Though You Are Not A Writer)
Are you contemplating starting a blog? Maybe you have seen other people have so much success online and wonder if it would be possible for you. You want to know if starting a blog is the right path for you and even where to start. I hear ya! Not too long ago, I was in that exact position. I started blogging in 2015, and although I did not take blogging seriously for many years, I can truthfully say that starting my blog has been one of the best decisions ever.
Starting a blog is not easy at all, but the feeling you get when you are doing something in alignment with your passion and purpose makes it all worthwhile.
In this post, I will walk you through the top 10 reasons to start a blog. More than that, I want you to start a blogging business and be able to make money from your blog.
Forget Essay Writing Rules
This is entirely possible to start a blog and to be successful and you do not have to be a writer to do so. In fact, I waited many years to start blogging because I didn’t like writing. I thought that no one would read my content and that it would be a waste of time.
Here is the thing. Blogging is nothing like essay writing. With essay writing, it is all about grammar and sentence structure. Blogging is mostly just getting your point across in a way that sounds natural and easy to read. If I can do it, I know that you can too.
Blogging Is Not Dead
There are some people who believe that blogging is dead. The rise of other platforms such as Instagram and even youtube has seemed to take the attention away from blogs.
The statistics show that blogging continues to be popular across all age groups. More than that, people continue to read blogs, and blogging is rated as one of the most trustworthy sources of information online.
The fact remains that blogging has changed significantly over the years. If you plan to start a blog, it is important to be aware of the current blogging trends so that you can stay relevant.
Blogging can be a great side hustle. If this is something that you are on the fence about, here are my top 10 reasons to start a blog.
1- You Do Not Have To Be An Expert To Get Started
Contrary to what many people will want you to believe, it really doesn’t take that much to start a blogging business. All you need is a computer or a phone with an internet connection and you are good to go.
In fact, you can start a blog in as little as 30 minutes with the right guidance.
Even though I strongly believe that investing in yourself helps to make you better at your craft, it is not necessary to do this before you start a blog. You can start a blog even though you do not have any degrees or certifications. I know many incredible bloggers and business owners with no formal degrees in the topic that they are discussing. What they have is knowledge and experience and a willingness to share where they are with their audience.
The fact that you are alive and reading this post tells me that you have a unique skill set and experiences that someone else can benefit from. You do not have to be an expert to get started, You just need to start sharing your story.

2- Blogging Is An Inexpensive Way To Start A Business
Starting a blogging business is also relatively easy because you do not require much capital to start.
This is a great benefit of most online-based businesses. If you chose to, you can start a blog with as little as $2.95. This is the cost of hosting your blog on your own platform for a month.
Alternatively, you can chose to blog for free on other platforms such as Medium. While the opportunities to monetize your blog will be less with this approach, I am sure that you can appreciate how starting a blog does not require a huge upfront investment.
This means that the risk involved (at least in monetary terms) is really low. You do not have that much to lose.
Once you have built your blog, you can focus your efforts on generating traffic for your blog. This traffic will allow you to start monetizing your blog.
3- Allows You To Make Good Money
I never want to be a proponent of the idea that blogging is easy money. It is not.
Although you can monetize your blog from the get-go, you will only start to generate a sizeable revenue with hard work and consistent effort.
With my full-time job, I am not looking for blogging to be the answer to my financial burdens. I see it as a way to generate extra money. I can use the money towards things like vacations, nice dinners, and other treats for myself and my family. If you look at your blog in that way (especially in the beginning stages) you are less likely to put too much pressure on yourself.
4- Positions You As The Go To Person
Blogging is a great way to build authority because it allows you to become known as THE person to go to in your niche. Of course, there will always be competition, but if you start a blog, you are able to delve deep into topics with longer-form content that other people may not be providing on social platforms such as Instagram.
When you consistently share value-driven content that is in depth and provides solutions to your readers problems, they begin to trust you and value your expertise. They will also come to you the next time they need help with a similar topic.
5- Opportunity To Make An Impact In Peoples Lives
There is someone out there who is looking for EXACTLY what you have to offer.
You may think that your knowledge or expertise is small and insignificant, but there are people out there who are looking for it. It can truly transform people’s lives.
I am a huge proponent of blogging and content creation for this reason. If I can help ONE person solve their problem just be my sharing my knowledge on a topic, I would have impacted them in a positive way.
The goal is to make your blog about others and less about yourself.
6- You Can Attract A New Audience With Your Blog
The great thing about blogging is that you can utilize the power of SEO to attract a new audience to your blog. By optimizing your blog posts, you can increase the chances of ranking well on the search engines. When this happens, you essentially attract an audience who are looking for exactly what it is that you have to offer.
7- Blogging Allows You To Build Rapport With Your Audience
Once you attract a new audience, you can use your blog to build rapport. The know like and trust factor is what takes people from casual browser to loyal supporter and warm lead. People are generally warmer and more receptive when they have consumed content that is valuable and has helped them in some way.
8- Provides A Platform To Talk About Topics That You Are Passionate About
You can start a blog about pretty much any topic that you are passionate about. This is a great reason to start a blog. You see, a lot of people are used to doing things that they are not truly passionate about *cough* their 9-5. We do it because we have to put food on the table. That is ok.
When you start a blog, chances are that you are doing it to talk about topics that truly interest you. If that is the case, I am sure that you will find it so much easier to put in the work that you need to make it successful.
The work will not feel like work because you are enjoying yourself.
9- You Can Always Change Direction
There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to blogging. That is what is so great about it. If something is not working, you can wake up tomorrow and change direction.
I love it because it puts less pressure on you. Even though most people do not like failure, it is a necessary part of your journey to success. When you encounter bumps in the road, all you have to do is pause, pick yourself up and try again.
10- Excellent For Community Building
Another great benefit and reason to start a blog is the fact that it allows you to meet people who you would not have normally met or interacted with.
As a result of my blog, I have so met so many wonderful people reach out to me after finding me through my blog. Some of these people live halfway across the world and have become friends.
The other great thing about blogging is the fact that it is easy to find communities of bloggers who share a similar interest. As someone who does blogging as a side hustle, this was a Godsend. A lot of these people have acted as an incredible support system for me. We are in a similar stage in our journey and can share our experiences with each other.
These are my 10 reasons to start a blog. I am sure that you can tell how much I love blogging. It has had a huge impact in my life. It is one of the best decisions that I have ever made.
If you are reading this and you are thinking- this sounds pretty cool, I want to encourage you to push your fear to the side, and just GO FOR IT!
I am only a message away if you are looking for support with your blog. Send me a message with your questions and I will be sure to get back to you.
